2007's best Tamil albums so far

So far, it's been an interesting mix, with an emphasis on sound rather than lyrics, and form over content. Fortunately, an astounding array of new voices have contributed to the success of contemporary Tamil film music. Here's a look at some of 2007's chart-busters.

Mozhi

Composer Vidyasagar at his melodious best. With no cosmetic dressing, he still managed to create mood-defining music. Impressive instrumentation, the poetry of Viramuthu's lyrics and the new voice of Balram coupled with other established singers made Mozhi a compelling package.

It is a pity that, following his heavenly Kaatrin mozhiyae, Balram hasn't had another opportunity to showcase his talent. S P Balasubramanyam stood shoulders above the rest with his age-defying voice. This was undoubtedly a landmark album.
