Thaniye
Director: Babu Thiruvalla
Cast: Nedumudi Venu, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy
Babu Thiruvalla, the producer of such films as Oru Minnaminunginte Nurunguvettom and Amaram, turned director with a finely crafted film on the life of an ailing old man, George Kutty (Nedumudi Venu). He is bedridden and lonely, left to the mercy of a watchman-cum-cook.
The old man's woes are understood and taken care of by a young nurse (Lakshmi Gopalaswamy), who brings him back to his normal self with her dedicated care and affection.
Thaniye beautifully etched the apathies of loneliness, the magic of selfless love and greed for more money, on screen.
Thaniye was also one of the five Malayalam films selected for the Indian Panorama at IFFI, Goa.
