Jimmy Shergill doesn't have problem working with debutant directors

On Strangers

Strangers is basically a thriller, an emotional drama. At the same time it has a flavour that comes through the dialogues. They are very entertaining in the lighter as well as the intense situations. You have lot of laughter points in the film. Overall, the film is about relationship with romance. I will call it a thriller because every time you think this is what is going to happen, something else unfolds. It is quite gripping. The director Anand Rai has tried to use a different way to narrate his story.

This is Rai's first film but I was not at all apprehensive as I have always worked with new directors. I don't have a problem with that. When a person like Anand Rai comes with his script and after you read it as an actor you instantly come to know that this guy is going to come out with a damn good film.

I immediately called him and said I want to meet you. It is not always with every film that you get such a gut feeling. The kind of character that he gave me was something that I have never done before.

In a nutshell, my character is a writer; he writes novels. Normally what happens is when a creative person falls in love, his creativity increases. But with my character, it is the opposite.

The story is not about broken relationships; it is about two strangers who meet on train -- me and Kay Kay Menon. One of them is very talkative and extrovert -- that's me -- and the other is very reserved.

They click and things start to happen as they are unfolding their lives to each other. And the audience is also getting to know about their lives at the same time.

The whole thing is revealed right in the end. It is one of those movies that you like more when you watch it the second time. Then you come to know what they meant by each line or expression.

My costar in the film is Nandana Sen. I didn't know her initially but I had heard about her. I met her during the readings. But I was excited as Kay Kay, Sonali Kulkarni and Nandana are the three other people who are acting in this film.

I thought that if these people have decided to act, that means my gut feel was right as these people are particular about the type of films they do; they are great actors. The film is going to be something unusual.

On Sonali Kulkarni's seminude shot

It is already there in the trailer and it is not even vulgar. She is sleeping in the bathtub. It has nothing to do with flesh show or anything! It is a completely clean film. Since it is a thriller, I can't reveal you the exact details of that particular scene.

I promote all my films but after Yahan this is the first time that I have taken out twenty days of my schedule to promote Strangers.
