Hey! Ram (2000)
The maker: Kamal Haasan
The man playing Gandhi: Naseeruddin Shah
Kamal Haasan's disconnected narrative, despite spiffy cinematography and well-rounded performances, was a box-office failure.
The drama unfolds in a flashback involving the fictional character of Saket Ram (Haasan) -- his flight from domestic bliss to extremism and subsequently embracing the Gandhian way of life against the backdrop of Partition, riots and politics.
For his part, Naseeruddin Shah relies on his experience as a seasoned actor to adequately convey the Mahatma's final hours.
