It was the Tamil remake of Fazil's Malayalam film, Noketha Doorathu Kannum Nattu. It had been decades since Padmini appeared in a Malayalam film, that too in a full-length role. And if she was a Christian grandmother in the Malayalam original, she was a Brahmin paatti (grandmother) in the Tamil remake. Both versions were smash hits.
