Bollywood's Bong Connection

In a recent chat with rediff.com, actress Raima Sen said Bengalis have finally arrived in Bollywood! And what with actresses like Rani Mukerji, Bipasha Basu and Konkona Sensharma, it's easy to believe that.

But besides these good-looking women, the industry, in recent times, has seen an influx of Bengali directors as well.

rediff.com takes a look at Bengali filmmakers trying to make it in Bollywood.

Goynar Baksho (Jewellery Box)
Director: Aparna Sen

Riding high on the success of Mr & Mrs Iyer (2002) and the critically acclaimed 15 Park Avenue, Aparna Sen plans to revive her long shelved project, her first Hindi project, Goynar Baksho.

The film, a comedy, tells a tale of three middle-class women of three generations and their bizarre social existence and conflicts.

Sen has roped in Govinda to play Konkona Sensharma's husband in the film. The film will also star Paresh Rawal and mother-daughter duo Sharmila Tagore and Soha Ali Khan.

The film is produced by Bipin Vohra, who also produced 15 Park Avenue.

Design: N V Reuben
