On August 1, 1981, a band called The Buggles had the honour of having their video aired on a brand new channel devoted exclusively to music. The song was an apt one -- Video killed the radio star.

It played at midnight, ushering in a brave new world of musicians, artistes, performers and, sadly, that person we refer to these days as the VJ.

But a whole lot of people still want their MTV.
