'I want Ravan to be recognised'
Through a friend's help, he got a role in prominent Mandira Bedi serial, Shanti. Then came some Balaji Telefilms projects, and some Hindi films -- Interestingly, the Ravan actor played Kamsa in Krishnavatar, starred in Shyam Benegal's Bose: The Forgotten Hero, and Kachchi Sadak, besides the Telugu film Chhatrapati. His Ek Dastak is awaiting release, and he's in talks for an American project to be filmed in Boston.
But for now, it's all Ravan. "My friend Chandan Singh has written Ravan. He called me for the role, but I was bit reluctant because I thought it was just another mythological serial. And the way mythological serials are done here, I have personally not been inspired so I didn't want to do it," admits Jha. "But he convinced me. During the narration he said that more than a mythological serial, this was to be treated this serial as a historical drama. This serial will be based on facts on the basis of scriptures our writer has researched on this subject, and they thought I suited the character. After the narration I was thoroughly impressed. I thought this character is larger than life and there was a lot of scope as an actor. I felt there was no negativity or positivity in this character."
