Unlike what people think, I'm not going through a low career phase. Some films flop, some are hits. Kisna flopped, but Kaal was a hit. This happened at the start of my career to - Company was a hit, Dum was a flop...
And I have interesting films coming up. Like Vishal Bharadwaj's Issak. It needed more homework and hard work because I had to get the language and character correct. I play Kesu Phirangi, a big tough guy. He's got a range of emotions from a sensuous flirt to an angry guy with weapons. The film is not the same as Othello. I know it's sacrilege to say this, but Vishal's adaptation is more exciting and relevant to me than Othello is.
When Vishal first told me I was playing Cassio, I didn't want to do it. I didn't find the character interesting. But he made me hear him out, and I loved his interpretation of the characters. He's enhanced each of them.
