But the top heroine in the Tamil film industry is currently busy with Telugu films, and the top Tamil roles are going to either Asin or Nayanthara.

Asin

Acting seemed like an unlikely profession for this 21-year-old daughter of a doctor from Ernakulam. She was also the winner of an entrepreneurial award as a teenager.

Modelling brought her the first movie offer -- a Malayalam film. After that, the Malayalam film industry ignored her. It proved to be a blessing for Asin as she was welcomed by the Telugu film industry.

It was a smooth transition from Telugu to Tamil with the film M Kumaran s/o Mahalakshmi. Asin starred in the original Telugu version, so she was the obvious choice for the Tamil remake, opposite Jeyam Ravi. The movie was a super hit.

What makes Asin hot in the Tamil film industry is that she has teamed up with all the top heroes -- Vijay, Ajit, Surya and now Vikram, in his next film Maja.
