I did an advertisement - the Hyundai Getz car - for Shah Rukh Khan's production house, Red Chillies Entertainment. The ad was directed by Farah Khan. Farah and I are very close. We have done about 25-30 songs together. In fact, Farah won her first Filmfare award for a song for Virasat, shot by me. Her four Filmfare awards were for films I had shot. She got her first National Award for Koi... Mil Gaya, which was also shot by me.
Unfortunately, I couldn't shoot her directorial debut, Main Hoon Na. When she asked me to suggest a cameraman's name, I suggested Manikandan. She didn't know who he was but trusted me and took him, and the film became a hit.
It was while we were shooing the ad for Red Chillies that Shah Rukh's office called me to talk about his new project.

When I came to know that it would be directed by Amol Palekar, I was very excited. It will not be a usual commercial film, but a very offbeat one.
It is a period film, to be shot in Rajasthan. So, it will be colourful. So, after Black, it is going to be a different texture altogether.
I have already started thinking about the look of the film. Amol Palekar has shown me some reference pictures and told me the kind of paintings he is looking at, the colour scheme, etc. Being a painter, he is very particular about the visuals. I am excited because after having played with black in Black, I can now play with a lot of colours in this film!
