While I was shooting Shankar's Boys, I got a call from Sanjay's office. It was for Bajirao Mastani. I met him and we discussed the film.

On the same day, I got a call from Mani Ratnam's office, for Ayutha Ezhuthu and Yuva. I was in a dilemma; I didn't know which film to accept. Both were such great projects.

Sanjay told me that he would start his film in 2004. That was good news for me because Mani wanted to shoot the films in 2003. I was relieved.

Then, I got a call from Sanjay saying he was going to do a smaller film called Black first, a film with no songs. Sanjay had, till now, done colourful films with many songs, and this was for the first time that he was doing a film with no colour and no songs. I will say it is Sanjay's most personal film.

It is a very touching, emotional story about a blind girl. It is also dramatic and fast paced. The film has some excellent performances from both Amitji and Rani. I think it is the best performance from Amitji yet.
