Talking about the film, Bachchan says, "Waqt is based on a Gujarati play, Awajo Vahala Phari Malishu (My beloved, we will meet again). Vipul and I had made the successful Aankhen together last time. I hope to repeat its success, as this play is already a hit in Gujarati theatres."

The actor goes on to explain the scene he just shot. "In the film, I have thrown my son, Akshay Kumar, out of my house. He's staying in a guest house, on my premises. Being a father, I love him so much that I have secretly sent food for him. But Boman Irani, Akshay's father-in-law, tells him about my actions. In this shot, I get angry with him."
