Cast: Tabu, Chandrachur Singh and Om Puri

 Plot: His friend is battered by the police in a Punjab seething with demands for Khalistan. To take revenge, the hero joins a terrorist group. His only aim is to avenge himself on the law and order system that wronged him and his loved ones.

Missile: Although the script was somewhat sketchy, Maachis was a commendable attempt at reflecting the unrest amongst the youth which led to the terrorism in Punjab after the 1984 riots. Gulzar ably put across their insecurities, fears and shattered dreams.

Blast from the past: Tabu won a National Award for her outstanding performance.
