Ambani chopper sabotage: Key witness dead

April 28, 2009

"Bharat Borge was one of the senior-most technicians and his death has saddened all of us in Airworks," the statement said, adding he was one of the most valued members of the company's team in Mumbai.

"He showed exemplary presence of mind in discovering the tampering attempt of helicopter under maintenance contracts with us," it said.

"He will always be remembered for his invaluable contribution. On behalf of Airworks, we offer our deepest condolences to the family and are doing our best to support them in this time of great loss," the statement said.

The Mumbai Police, which is probing the sabotage case, has sought the opinion of Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and aviation experts to determine the consequences if the helicopter had taken off.

"We are taking the help of DGCA and other experts in the case. Pebbles, which were found in the gear box, have also been sent for forensic test," Joint Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria told PTI.
