China; Rank 15
China scored 7.1 points in the index. The most vexing problem of China seems to be its huge population.
China's economy is among fastest growing in the world and is second only to the US.
China is the fourth most visited countries in the world with 53.6 million inbound international visitors in 2007.
It is a member of the WTO and is the world's third largest trading power behind the US and Germany.
It is among the world's favourite destination for foreign direct investment.
China owes its economic success to manufacturing as a low-cost producer.
This is supplemented by cheap labour, good
infrastructure, medium level of technology and skill, relatively high productivity and favourable government policy.
The present global crisis, however, has struck the economy of the country and is expected to bring down the
country's high growth rate to some extent.
