The Bangalore airport project has not been without hiccups. Initially the project was to be undertaken by a consortium headed by the Tatas in 1991, but they walked out of the project because of delays in getting clearance.
The project got stalled till 1999. Thereafter, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Karnataka State Industries Development Corporation and the Airport Authority of India.
The tender was finally bagged by a consortium comprising Zurich Airport, Larsen and Toubro and Siemens.
The project was finally cleared in 2004 and the land lease agreement was signed a year later.
