Bill Gates during his visit to India in 2005 said that the company will invest $1.7 billion in India over the next four years to expand its operations.
The fund was allocated to make India a major hub of Microsoft's research, product and application development, services and technical support for both global and domestic companies.
Bill Gates met around 100 CEOs, over 2,500 developers, including 1,000 Infoscions in his first visit to Infosys. As a customary practice, Gates also planted a tree at the Infosys campus.
