Did you know? In its initial avatar, UTV mainly produced television content for Doordarshan and made ad films.

By 1992, Zee TV commissioned around 250 hours of programming from UTV, making it one of the country's largest content providers. UTV expanded into the inflight entertainment division in 1993. In 1995, it launched the long-running soap, Shanti.

In the news: Walt Disney Co picked up 15 per cent stake in UTV Global Broadcasting Ltd for Rs.1.18 billion earlier this month. Disney now has a 32.1 per cent stake in UTV Software Communications and 15 per cent in the broadcast arm of the company, UGBL, on a total investment of Rs 81.83 billion.

Meanwhile, UTV announced it has acquired an 80 per cent stake in the US based online publishing group, True Games Interactive.
