Though national hockey captain Dhanraj Pillay had a deal with Reebok soon after he led India to the Asian Games gold in 1998, sponsors have started taking a fresh look at hockey only of late following the team's performances in the Champions Trophy and Asia Cup.

Sahara Parivar will sponsor the Indian hockey team for the next eight years. Stars Pillay, Jugraj Singh, now recuperating in hospital following an accident, and Gagan Ajit Singh have been signed on by Percept IMC for the next two years.
