AI employees divided on strike over MD's suspensionDifferences have cropped up among Air India staff on Friday on a reported threat to strike work in sympathy with the suspended A-I chief, Michael Mascrenhas. Meanwhile, AI management said that it foresaw no threat whatsoever to its flights from the strike threat. Four officials of the Air India Employees Guild on Friday disowned a statement made by AIEG Secretary, Y E Reddy, that the 12,000 strong ground staff would agitate against the Centre's 'unfair' decision. AIEG President, V S Girdhar and three other office-bearers in a communication to the Civil Aviation ministry termed Reddy's announcement as "an individual expression". In their communication to Civil Aviation Secretary A H Jung, they said that the circular regarding demonstrations by wearing black badges "is not a decision of managing committee. Further, we would like to clarify that we were not informed by V A George, general secretary of AIEG, about this directive." R K Savant, secretary, S K Ghosh, vice president and O Lobo, assistant secretary were the other signatories to the communication sent to the government on Friday. A day after Mascrenhas' suspension on charges of showing undue favours to the general sales agent in London, Reddy had spoken of "widespread unrest in the entire organisation" over the government action. "If things go beyond control and justice is not meted out to our MD, the guild may take the harsh decision to paralyse the functioning of A-I," Reddy had said. YOU MAY ALSO WANT TO READ:
