Verma remanded to judicial custody till April 30Onkar Singh in New Delhi The Central Bureau of Investigation has moved an application before the additional district and sessions judge R L Chugh asking for the court's permission to put B P Verma, former chairman of Central Board of Excise and Customs, to a polygraph test. The application would come for argument on April 19 when the bail applications of three other accused would be also heard. The judge, meanwhile, sent B P Verma, his son Siddarth Verma, Bhavna Pandey and Rajiv Kumar Sharma to judicial custody till April 30. Earlier, the CBI disclosed to the court that during his prolonged interrogation on Friday last and on Saturday morning Verma had admitted nothing. Verma denied that he had used the cell phone of Bhavna Pandey to make calls to A K Enterprises or to strike deals with anyone. He also refuted the allegations that he had helped A K Enterprises in any manner. "In view of this, we would require B P Verma to undergo a lie-detector test to prove the authenticity of his statements." In another case, the Delhi high court issued A notice to the CBI in the Olga Kozireva case. Olga was sent to CBI custody till April 23 in the smuggling case registered against her and some other customs officials. Olga had been smuggling Chinese silk with the connivance of some officers in the customs department and two Afghan nationals who are absconding. Justice R C Chopra of the Delhi high court issued the notices to the CBI on the petition moved by Olga challenging the order of the lower court to hand her over to the CBI for questioning.
