Some films, like Rang De Basanti chose themes which were different, and made some locations famous in the process. One example is the fort shown in the movie -- a small old structure, built near Doraha, behind Gurudwara Manji Sahib near Ludhiana. Another example is the way the film Bombay captured the sea-caressed ramparts of Bekal Fort. It truly made one feel like singing there.
Film: Rang De Basanti
This cult movie of 2006 was shot extensively in North India. The film saw parts of New Delhi, Agra, Rajasthan and Punjab. The India Habitat Centre in New Delhi was shot as Delhi University and the All India Radio Station scenes were shot at Modern School, Barakhamba Road. The mourning and protest scenes were shot beautifully at India Gate. Some locations in Punjab, like the Golden Temple (Amritsar), Manji Saab Gurudwara , Sarai Lashkari Khan (Ludhiana), were also seen in the film. Also, Bilanwali Masjid and Gharka were captured very well in this movie.
Film: Bombay
This controversial film of 1995 captured the Bekal fort in the Kasargod district of Kerala amazingly well in the song Tu Hi Re.
