In these days, you have the option of starting your own firm and becoming an entrepreneur. If your family background is conducive, this may certainly be a viable option.
Some management schools have helped to enhance this trend. For example, IIM-A has the concept of a 'placement holiday', whereby their students, after completing their course, can decide to opt out of the placement process and establish their own business.
If this venture doesn't succeed, the students are allowed to re-enter the placement process after a gap of two years. This means that the risks are addressed to a fair degree-should you not succeed as an entrepreneur, you can join the corporate world.
This option is a better bet for students who have prior work experience, since they have had some exposure to the corporate world, and therefore understand what all processes and systems need to be in place for their own firm to succeed.
