When I arrived in Jodhpur on my first trip I wondered why they called it the Blue City. Everything around was either pink or creamish in colour.
It was only when we reached the Mehrangarh Fort did I discover why.
All the homes near this 15th century fort had their outer walls painted in shades of blue. That area near the fort is known as the old city.
Though the majestic fort was closed at night, its restaurant -- the Mehrana Terrace -- was open from 7 pm onwards. The restaurant offered a spectacular view of the city and was located at the roof of the fort. You had to take an elevator up, since the rest of the fort was closed at night. That was the only way to enter Mehrana Terrace.
