You may think you're being pretty smooth when you're rifling through others' profile pages, but you're really not.
Nakul Mehndiratta, a 23-year-old Delhi-based entrepreneur, was once a regular user of Orkut, but soon shifted base to Facebook due to privacy issues. "Everyone knew what happening in my life when I was using Orkut," he recalls. "There was absolutely no privacy whatsoever. People who I had nothing to do with would snoop around. And people I wanted to avoid would snoop around too. So I switched to Facebook. At least now the world is not into my profile!"
Some social networking Web sites track your movements online, others don't. But everyone you know will catch on eventually. Because it doesn't take a genius to figure out that you got sloshed the same day your ex uploaded photos of his new girlfriend. Or that a die-hard rock music lover like you joined the 'Bollywood Beats' online community because the girl you have a crush on is a fan.
So don't be a spy -- it's fine to visit others' profiles, but if it becomes an obsession, you're asking for trouble.
