Don't try to add on people you don't know

June 26, 2008
'I want to make friendship with you' -- that annoying, grammatically disastrous sentence will set anybody's teeth on edge.

And if you think that Mr or Miss Hottie doesn't know that it's his/her smoking hot profile pic in a swimsuit that's got you wanting to 'make friendship', as you nauseatingly put it, you're mistaken. Nine out of 10 people don't want to be your friend if they don't know you, so stop trying so hard and making yourself sound so desperate.

Fumes 28-year-old Arati Kejriwal, a Mumbai-based Tarot card reader-cum-Reiki healer, "I hate when random people invite me to join their friend lists or send me invites to add an application. I don't want strangers accessing my personal information, which is why I don't even use my Orkut account anymore, I only use Facebook."

Bottom line, it's just plain inappropriate to approach someone you don't know from Adam's just because you can -- don't forget that they can brush you off just as easily.
