Chikmagalur, Karnataka

A journey through Karnataka's beautiful countryside and a couple of days in the peace and quiet of a coffee plantation is what Chikmagalur has to offer.

Located in the foothills of the Baba Budangiri Hills, Chikmagalur has something for everyone: hills, valleys, streams, flora, fauna and many paths and trek routes for those who like to walk.

Airfare for Rs 599 and less!

You can go trekking, fishing, bird watching or even opt for a coracle ride or a plantation tour. The area is also rich in history and heritage and has quite a few old temples. The famous temple towns of Halebid and Belur are located close by.

Chikmagalur enjoys a salubrious climate all year round. Winters of course are cooler.

You can choose to stay at a riverside cottage and enjoy the sound of gushing waters or stay up in the hills amidst a coffee plantation.

For a view of Chikmagalur town head to the Mahatma Gandhi Park or drive to scenic Kemmangundi and see the Hebbe and Kalhatti Falls. Other places to see in and around are Giridarshini, the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary and Baba Budangiri which is famous for its shrine and the three waterfalls, Gada Theertha, Kamana Theertha and Nellikayi Theertha. Apparently, it was at the Baba Budangiri range that coffee was first grown in India, way back in 1670.
