Relationships are all about compromise, compromise, compromise!

April 9, 2008
"I give and I give and I give..." and be sure you'll have to give some more! Because there's more give than take in dating and relationships! You'll find that you have a lot to sacrifice for your partner and he/she will have to do the same for you to keep things running smoothly.

Shares 26-year-old UK-based architecture student Rayan Abbas*, "I had a lot of issues compromising with my ex-girlfriend. We had a long-distance relationship, which made things harder than usual in the first place -- I was studying in the US back then and she was in the UK. One year she came to visit me and on her last night there, I decided to attend a lecture by a leading architect at a university 11 hours away. I was very focused on my studies and career, which made this a necessity for me. Needless to say, she was hopping mad about the whole thing and in hindsight, it was rather selfish of me not to have spent that time with her when she had travelled all that way to be with me. We eventually broke up and are now very good friends. But I do regret hurting her feelings like that and would advise anyone who is not willing to compromise in a relationship to steer clear of one till they are ready to do so."

So here's the bottom line, people -- dating and relationships can be fun and the best thing in your life. But make sure you're ready for them before rushing headlong into the arms of someone totally incompatible. And be sure to weigh all the pros and cons before making a commitment!
