Rediscovering Manali
Quiz a person in north India about the most popular honeymoon destination, at least two out of three will say Manali.
This was the reason we never considered Manali for a holiday.
Until recently.
Manali is a bustling hill-station in Dev-Bhoomi (God's abode) Himachal Pradesh. To avoid the boredom of travelling during the day, we chose to travel by night from Delhi. In no time we passed through Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, Panchkula, Nalagarh, Swarghat, Bilaspur and Sundernagar.
Airfare for Rs 599 and less!
By the time the sun was out, we were speeding through the winding roads of Mandi. It is advisable to keep your woollens within easy reach; it gets cold. You don't want to be ill on your holiday, do you?
We stopped at the Hanogi Mata Temple to take a short break. A little further ahead, we navigated the Mandi tunnel -- the drive through this tunnel will daze even the most skillful drivers. Soon we were driving along the Beas river to reach Manali.
Manali in summer was like a scene outside a theatre when a house-full show comes to an end! Cars and buses were caught in long and chaotic traffic jams! But we were soon distracted by the sights around us: pretty wooden cottages, busy shops, women carting wood, kids on their way to school and herds of sheep.
