Statues from another world
We entered the magnificent inner sanctum of the monastery with its elaborately carved dome. Spellbound by the sight that greeted us we stopped in our tracks. Three enormous gold Buddhas were seated in a row. Elaborately sculpted and adorned in finery, the statues were out of this world.
Wonderful Buddhist painting adorned the walls.
A sense of tranquillity seemed to have swept in as we stood silently for a very long time.
When we came out we headed to shop at the Tibetan curio stores that were lined outside the monastery.
I bought my mom a wall painting of Buddha that glowed in the dark and was supposed to be auspicious.
Monks were everywhere buying the latest fashionable shades and bags. We captured a photo of a monk riding a bike. After that we had some really cool and refreshing coconut water.
Airfare for Rs 599 and less!
By this time we were really hungry. We went to a south Indian restaurant called Athithi where we had a lip-smackingly delicious meal served on plantain leaves!
Nisargadhama, 30 kms from Madikeri was next on the programme. We crossed a dangerously swaying bridge to enter the preserve.
Bamboo trees lined both sides of the park in clumps. We walked leisurely, looking at the various patterns the branches made above our heads.
