Lovely weather. Mesmerizing mountains.

The chaotic and incredibly dirty scenes of the city slowly gave way to soothing green fields and rolling pastures.

Seated opposite us was a couple from Israel, backpacking their way across India. Ignoring my friend's jibes about foreigner fascination I proceeded to engage them in conversation.

Conversation amicably hopped between different themes -- their travels in India, their views on India, my views on Israel, Albert Einstein and the like.

Soon Mysore arrive. Time for lunch, naturally, before the bus trip to Coorg. And what was lunch? Amazing dosas dripping with ghee at a restaurant opposite the Mysore bus stand.

The weather was lovely. It rained for a brief period. Mysore looked fresh and alluring. The bus to Coorg started at 12.30 pm. Soon we were speeding up the hills. It had begun to drizzle again. Incredibly lush green mountains greeted us.

The misty mountains, caressed by soft strands of cottony clouds, and the gently swaying trees bathed in pearly drops of rainwater was totally mesmerizing.

Madikeri was a small, rather cluttered town, nestled like a bird's nest in the verdant hills.

The town, which is the district headquarters of Coorg, spread along the ridge of a mountain, at 3,900 feet above sea level. A very friendly and cheap auto ride bought us to Hotel Hill Town. It looked decent enough and we settled into our room and rested a bit before heading out to Raja's Seat, a popular sunset viewpoint. It was a cold misty evening.
