Sleep cheap

Budget travel calls for cheaper accomodations. You can save a major chunk on accommodations by choosing a moderately priced place. After all, you don't need a luxury suite when all you are going to do in it is sleep.

However, make sure that the place is respectable, safe and hygienic. Hostels, and bed and breakfasts are the best bet as they are comfortable, cheap and offer kitchen facilities.

Youth hostels throughout India offer facilities for travellers to stay for a few days. A night in such a hostel ranges between Rs 100 to Rs 400 per person. Many such hostels even offer an annual membership as low as Rs 1,000 a year.

Looking for something more private? Guesthouses are another option. They are slightly more expensive than hotels and are usually family run. The plus side is that check-in and check-out timings are more flexible.

You can do an Internet search of these places or look for online reviews of such places. You will be surprised to find reviews on the quaintest of places situated in the most unheard of areas.
