Travel light

Extra weight means extra trouble. If you lug around too much stuff, you will have to pay porters instead of saving money by carrying your own stuff. Carry back packs or light weight trolleys.

If your hotel is near the station or the metro, you can even think of walking to it instead of taking a cab.

While packing, ensure that you are not carrying any valuables -- not only is it unsafe but it can also add to your expenses. Locker facilities in hotels and other guesthouses cost money. Leave your gold or diamond jewellery at home. If you must wear jewellery, stick to silver or imitation.

And no laptops or expensive phones, please.
