Parenting woes

The normally low-profile Shilpa Shetty made it to the headlines for quite the wrong reasons.

Her parents -- Surendra and Sunanda Shetty -- were charged for extortion. The police alleged the couple hired Malaysia-based gangsters Fazal-ur-Rehman and Uday Shetty to recover Rs 80 lakhs (Rs 8 million) from Surat businessman Pankaj Agarwal.

The amount was due to Shilpa for endorsing Agarwal's Praful Sarees.

Meanwhile, Shilpa performed at the International Indian Film Awards ceremony in South Africa and at Cannes, visited a school for the handicapped in Dubai, and blamed the media for the negative publicity.
