Weaving a sorry tale in Kancheepuram

Jayakumar recounts what happened after the DMK came to power in 1996.

"Everything was going so good for all of us till 1996. Then, the DMK came to power.

Soon, there was no raw material available. We were jobless, and when we complained to Chief Minister Karunanidhi, he insulted us by saying these are modern times and we shouldn't be working on looms; we should be working on computers. If we knew how to work on computers, would we be doing this? His question was an insult to what we were doing."
