Thalaivar on a sticky wicket
Chepauk is one of the smallest constituencies, with a voter base of little over a lakh. The number hasn't changed much since 1977, when the constituency was created. It is described as the bastion of the DMK, having made DMK candidates victorious in all elections except 1991, when an INC candidate won. In the 2001 elections, Karunanidhi won by a small margin of 4800 votes, defeating the INC candidate.
This time around, the DMK party chief is up against Dawood Mian Khan of IUML, an ally of the AIADMK.
