Villagers across Amethi and Rae Bareli spend more time out of their homes because their "children" are here.
"They are our children. We have been seeing them from the time when they were kids," says Congress worker Amar Mitra. He recalls Rajiv Gandhi driving around Amethi's villages in his Maruti Gypsy, with Rahul and Priyanka alongside.
The Gandhi children have been campaigning extensively in every nook and corner of the two constituencies, from where Rahul and Sonia Gandhi are contesting.
Congress leaders say the Gandhi siblings' campaign will have "a ripple effect" in other constituencies across Uttar Pradesh.
"People are excited that Rahul and Priyanka are entering politics. That is enough for the Congress to win many seats here," says Deepak Singh, a local Congressman.
So why have Rahul and Priyanka restricted their campaign to Amethi and Rae Bareli? "That decision rests with Sonia," says the person managing Rahul's campaign in Amethi.
Is it to do with the bad political strategy the Congress is often accused of?
