Virender Sehwag (Delhi Daredevils)

< Back Next >
Rating: 5/10

Well, Virender Sehwag has had nothing to do as captain, literally. Delhi Daredevils won their first three matches, and with their batsmen and bowlers on song, were comfortably placed, at least till Rajasthan Royal ended their winning run.

Sehwag cracked a quick 38 in a rain-affected match to guide Delhi to victory against Kings XI Punjab, but since then failed in the next three games.

His task was made much easier by the fact that both AB de Villiers (176 runs in 4 matches) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (124 runs in 4 games) played match-winning knocks in two games.

And with Daniel Vettori leading the bowling attack with six wickets in four matches, there were no major worries for Sehwag.

However, the only game when he was actually challenged as a captain (against Rajasthan), he failed to rise to the occasion. To say that he was outthought by his rival number would be akin to stating the obvious.

Sehwag and his opening partner, Gautam Gambhir, have both failed to live up to the hype and desperately need to perform. However, as they say, form is temporary, class is permanent.

But with players like Glenn McGrath, Paul Collingwood and the exciting David Warner waiting in the reserves, things can only get better for the Daredevils.
