After failing in both the innings in the first Test at Chennai (13 and 19), he scored his 30th Test hundred -- an effort that took him past Sir Don Bradman (29 centuries) and made him only one of the seven Test batsmen to have 30 or more hundreds to their name -- after Sachin Tendulkar (39), Ricky Ponting (34), Brian Lara (34), Sunil Gavaskar (34), Steve Waugh (32) and Matthew Hayden (30).
