'Guys, what is going on?'

July 31, 2007

Zaheer Khan -- 'Zak', to his team-mates -- wandered over towards the slip cordon, then comprising Andrew Strauss at first slip, Paul Collingwood at second, Ian Bell at third slip and Kevin Pietersen in the gully.

As he told the story in the post-play media conference, Zaheer said to them, 'Guys, what is going on? I am here to play cricket.'

He thought that would be that; the fielders had their fun, now he could get back to business. He took strike, he played a ball -- and when he next prepared to take strike, he looked down at the pitch, and he found jelly beans.

He had enough -- of the sweets, the gesture, and what to his mind was gratuitous insult offered by the Englishmen.
