Brett Lee celebrates the dismissal of Andrew Strauss.
The Australian fast bowler got the breakthrough the hosts were looking for just before lunch by tempting Strauss into an injudicious cut.
The ball was not short or wide enough for the stroke and the Middlesex batsman, who was dropped at third slip by Justin Langer two overs earlier off McGrath, only succeeded in edging through to Adam Glichrist for 29.
