England vs South Africa

Fifth Test, Day 1

Gary Kirsten played with great composure, scoring 90. Had he scored 10 more runs, he would have scored a third century in three consecutive Tests.

Kirsten has scored 18 centuries and 30 half-centuries in Test cricket so far. He shared the South African individual Test record of 275 with Daryll Cullinan till it was broken by Graeme Smith (277) in the first Test of the current series.

The veteran, who wanted to retire after the Oval Test, has now decided not to do so. It is said he wants to be the first South African to score 20 centuries.
