When the 'Silent killer' reigned

Thus began the most infamous and violent series cricket has ever known. Jardine was in Australia to win the Ashes and nothing less would do.

The English bowlers bowled short and at the batsmen's body with as many as five short legs up close at times. The English called it 'the leg-side theory' and the Australians simply called it 'Bodyline'.

In the series, Larwood captured 33 wickets, 16 of them clean-bowled. Take away 'Bodyline' and Bradman's career average stands at 104.76.
