Waugh's finest moments in the Caribbean came in 1994-95, when he averaged 107.25 for the series. Winning in the Caribbean as captain has, for long, been one of Waugh's dreams. However, he is forced to do battle without the banned Shane Warne, the absent Glenn McGrath and the injured Damien Martyn for now. Four years ago, Lara prised victory out of his hands; now the Aussie feels he must atone for that miss.
"You talk about not being complacent, I think this is a perfect tour to make sure we don't," he said.

Lara can console himself with memories of the last series against Australia in the Caribbean four years ago, when he scored brilliant, match-winning centuries in Jamaica and Barbados to enable the West Indies to draw 2-2. This time around, the Australians are stronger than ever, on a record-breaking spree, but without Glenn McGrath, at least for the first two Tests. Can it be just the opportunity for an encore?
