The United States of America opened its consulate in Hyderabad on Friday with the unfurling of star-and-stripe flag at the historic Paigah Palace in this 400-year-old city by David C Mulford, the US Ambassador to India.
This will be fifth such facility of the US in India after its embassy in New Delhi and consulates in Kolkatta, Chennai and Mumbai.
Inaugurating the consulate, David Mulford said that America chose Hyderabad for its full-fledged consulate in view of its historic, social, political commercial importance.
The inaugural function was attended by the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, US consul general to Hyderabad Cornellis M Keur and prominent personalities from cross-sections of society, including the captains of industry, heads of information technology companies, bio-tech and pharmaceutical firms.
