An International Space Force has to be created to protect space assets and facilitate its peaceful use for the benefit of the people, feels former President A P J Abdul Kalam.
Delivering a special lecture at the ongoing 58th International Astronautical Congress in Hyderabad, Kalam observed: "The outer space should be free from weapons. Multilateral approaches are required to ensure that use of outer space is in conformity with international law and in the interest of maintaining peace, security and promoting international co-operation."
Unveiling the World Space Vision 2050, he called upon scientists to work for reducing the cost of access to space and forge international partnerships for using technologies to solve the problems of energy, water, education and healthcare, besides exploring planets.
Over 2,000 space professionals from 45 countries are participating in the five-day Congress, being held in India after a gap of 19 years.
