Ramayan rules at Central Park

June 26, 2007
The Ramayan, famed danseuse Anita Ratnam believes, is one of the grand stories in the epic tradition, that contains within it the classic narrative ingredients: prince and princess, protagonist and antagonist, good and evil and, at the end of it all, a proper denouement.

"Also, the story of Ramayan is a familiar story that has universal appeal and can hold people's interest," Anita Ratnam said. "I wanted to bring a story from India that can also be danced. It is a wonderful timeless story, even for a non-Indian audience and that is why I chose it."
