TN employees strike: Headmaster
burns himself to death

An elementary school headmaster on Friday committed suicide after setting himself ablaze at Pollachi near Coimbatore depressed over the attitude of Tamil Nadu government towards the striking employees, police said.

Kashipandian (52), headmaster of the Nambiamuthur elementary school, doused himself with petrol and set himself afire in full view of the public and other protesting employees.

Though, Kashipandian was immediately admitted to the government hospital in Coimbatore with 80 per cent burns, he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Security was tightened as government employees began gathering in the hospital premises, they said.

About 1250 government employees and teachers have been arrested for attempting to stage protests at various places in Coimbatore district, police said.
