Withdraw strike by Friday or face ESMA: Jaya to employees

N Sathiya Moorthy in Chennai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday warned the state government employees to withdraw their strike by Friday or face action under the Essential Services Maintenance Act.

Unperturbed by Jaya's announcement, the employees intensified their agitation. They went ahead with their planned dharna outside district collectorates, and courted arrest.

Various trade unions affiliated to the non-BJP political parties have extended support to the striking government employees and teachers.
